Advanced EA Development – Custom MT4/MT5 Expert Advisor with Risk Management is designed for traders or businesses with more detailed rule-based strategies who want their trading rules converted into a custom Expert Advisor instead of adapting an off-the-shelf robot.

  • Platforms: MT4 / MT5
  • Typical scope: advanced risk logic, multi-timeframe conditions and agreed indicator integration
  • Delivery: a more flexible custom MT4/MT5 Expert Advisor built around your documented requirements

Before requesting a quote, prepare your exact entry rules, exits, timeframe, indicators, position sizing and risk limits. Clear rules help reduce development revisions and make testing more meaningful.

What to specify before custom MT4/MT5 EA development

A custom Expert Advisor is only as clear as the trading rules supplied for development. Before coding starts, document the rules that should be objectively testable rather than relying on discretionary phrases such as “strong trend” or “good setup.”

  • Entry logic: exact indicators, price conditions, confirmations and whether rules must occur on the current or closed candle.
  • Exit logic: stop loss, take profit, trailing rules, break-even logic, time exits and any basket-level exit conditions.
  • Risk controls: fixed or dynamic position sizing, maximum simultaneous positions, daily-loss or drawdown limits and spread/slippage filters where required.
  • Trading environment: MT4 or MT5, symbols, timeframe, broker-specific symbol names, hedging or netting requirements and any session restrictions.
  • Testing criteria: define what must be verified in Strategy Tester and demo forward testing before live deployment. Historical testing can validate whether coded rules behave as intended, but it does not guarantee future trading results.

Risk-management rules worth defining before coding

If capital protection is part of the strategy, specify the rules as measurable inputs before development begins. This lets the EA enforce your chosen limits consistently instead of relying on discretionary intervention.

  • Position sizing: state whether volume is fixed or calculated from a defined percentage of equity or balance, and how the stop-loss distance affects size.
  • Account limits: define maximum daily loss, overall drawdown or equity thresholds and exactly what the EA should do when a limit is reached.
  • Trade management: document break-even triggers, trailing-stop rules, partial closes and whether these apply per position or across a basket.
  • Execution guards: specify acceptable spread, slippage, trading sessions and any restrictions around high-impact events if those conditions form part of the strategy.
  • Multi-position exposure: define maximum open positions, total lots and whether correlated symbols or simultaneous trades require additional limits.

These controls manage execution and exposure; they do not remove market risk or guarantee profitability. Validate the finished EA in Strategy Tester and a demo environment using broker conditions that resemble the intended live setup.

Testing an MT5 EA under realistic execution conditions

A backtest can look stronger than live execution when trading costs or fills are too ideal. For MT5 projects, define the intended broker/account environment and test relevant spread, commission, execution-delay or slippage assumptions where the strategy is sensitive to them. Real-tick testing can improve historical modelling, but it still does not reproduce every future live-market condition.

For strategies with tight targets, frequent entries or execution-sensitive logic, small changes in spread or slippage can materially affect results. PMotive therefore treats strategy testing and software acceptance as separate questions: the EA should first reproduce the written rules correctly, while the strategy owner evaluates whether those rules remain acceptable under realistic costs and market conditions.

Request this package when its complexity matches your strategy.

Software can automate defined rules, but it cannot guarantee trading profitability.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need before development starts?

Provide clear entry, exit, risk-management and trade-management rules, plus the intended MetaTrader platform, symbols and any indicators or integrations.

Can PMotive build for both MT4 and MT5?

The supported platform depends on the selected package and agreed scope. Confirm MT4, MT5 or both before development begins.

Is source code included?

Source-code delivery depends on the package and agreed scope. Review the package details before payment or request clarification before development starts.

Can you convert a discretionary strategy into an EA?

Only rules that can be defined objectively can be coded reliably. If a strategy depends on judgement such as “strong momentum” or “good market structure,” those ideas first need measurable definitions and examples before they can become acceptance criteria.

Does the broker affect how an EA performs?

It can. Spreads, commissions, slippage, execution, symbol specifications, minimum lot sizes, stop levels and even symbol names can differ between brokers and account types. Tell PMotive the intended trading environment during scoping when these factors matter to the strategy.

Should an MT5 EA be tested with real ticks?

Real-tick testing can provide a more detailed historical simulation where suitable data is available. It should still be combined with sensible assumptions about trading costs and execution, followed by demo or forward testing where appropriate. No historical test can guarantee future results.

How should spread, commission and slippage be handled in testing?

Use assumptions that resemble the intended broker and account type, and stress-test execution-sensitive strategies under less favourable conditions where appropriate. A strategy that depends on unrealistically perfect fills may behave differently in live trading.

Can risk controls such as maximum positions or drawdown limits be coded?

Yes, where the rules are precisely defined and included in the agreed scope. Specify how the limit is calculated, when it resets and exactly what the EA should do after the threshold is reached.

Does a custom EA guarantee that the strategy will be profitable?

No. Development automates defined rules; it does not guarantee profitability, returns, win rate, drawdown or future market performance.

Agree these details before payment

  • Build specification: exact entry, exit, indicators, risk inputs and behaviour after rejected orders or terminal restarts.
  • Acceptance examples: at least one valid setup, one rejected setup and the expected trade-management behaviour.
  • Delivery: platform, compiled files, settings, documentation and source-code terms where applicable.
  • Commercial terms: price, payment stages if agreed, delivery schedule, revision limits and support period.
  • Testing: how coded behaviour will be checked against your written rules. Trading profitability is not a software acceptance criterion.

For indicators or third-party code, confirm licence permissions and access requirements before the quote is finalised. Never send passwords or API keys in a project brief.
