MT4 vs MT5 for EA Trading 2026 — Which Platform is Better for Expert Advisors Honest Comparison | PMotive

MT4 vs MT5 for EA Trading 2026: Which Platform Should You Choose?

MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 both support automated trading, but an EA built for one platform does not automatically run on the other. For buyers, the most important rule is simple: choose the platform required by the exact EA you plan to use.

PMotive currently sells both MT4 and MT5 products, so there is no reason to force every trader onto the same platform.

MT4 vs MT5 for Expert Advisors

Area MT4 MT5
EA file ecosystem MQL4 / EX4 MQL5 / EX5
Strategy testing Built-in tester More advanced testing and optimisation tools
Timeframes Core timeframe set Expanded timeframe set
Best reason to choose it You already use a compatible MT4 EA or broker setup The EA you want is built for MT5 or you need MT5 testing/features

Do MT5 EAs automatically perform better?

No. Platform choice by itself does not make a strategy profitable. Results depend on the EA's logic, settings, risk controls, broker conditions and market behaviour. MT5 offers a more modern testing environment, but a well-matched MT4 strategy can still be the correct choice for a trader who needs that product.

When MT4 makes sense

  • You already have an MT4 trading environment that works reliably.
  • The specific EA you want is an MT4 product.
  • Your broker's intended symbol/account setup is available on MT4.

For NAS100 buyers, PMotive currently has dedicated MT4 products. Read the NAS100 MT4 buyer guide before choosing a product.

When MT5 makes sense

  • The EA you want is an EX5 product.
  • You want MT5's expanded testing and optimisation tools.
  • You are comparing PMotive's current Gold, US30 or Deriv specialist MT5 products.

Mobile and VPS requirements

Both MT4 and MT5 have mobile apps for account monitoring and manual trading, but those apps do not execute desktop EA files directly. For automated operation, keep the compatible MetaTrader desktop terminal running on Windows or use a compatible VPS.

Bottom line

Choose MT4 or MT5 based on the actual EA, broker and market you plan to use—not because one platform is universally “better.” Confirm the product's platform before checkout and demo-test the setup under your broker conditions.

Automated trading involves financial risk. Platform features do not guarantee strategy performance.
