How Much Does Custom EA Development Cost and What Changes the Price? | PMotive

Custom MT4/MT5 EA Development Cost: Packages and Quote Checklist

Updated 5 October 2026. The cost of a custom MT4 or MT5 Expert Advisor depends on what the software must do and how you will accept the finished build. Start with a written strategy brief, then confirm the package and deliverables before paying.

What makes a build more expensive?

  • Platform count: an MT4 build and an MT5 build are separate deliverables unless both are agreed.
  • Strategy complexity: multiple timeframes, symbols, filters and order states require more implementation and testing.
  • External dependencies: custom indicators, data feeds, dashboards and other integrations need a compatibility review.
  • Risk and recovery logic: position limits, duplicate-order protection, restart behaviour and error handling add acceptance scenarios.
  • Handover: source code, documentation, licence rights and future maintenance must be defined in the quote.

A brief that helps you get an accurate quote

Send your chosen platform, broker and account type; symbols and timeframes; exact entry and exit conditions; indicator settings; position-sizing rules; and examples of valid and invalid trades. List essential features separately from optional ones. If “strong momentum” or “near support” still needs human judgement, define the measurement before requesting automation.

For example, a single-symbol moving-average rule with fixed exits is a different project from a multi-symbol system with partial closes, a dashboard and custom news handling. A useful quote explains which requirements are included, rather than assigning one price to every strategy.

What to agree before paying

  1. Confirm the specification, selected package and any additional costs.
  2. Record compiled-file and source-code deliverables, usage rights and third-party dependencies.
  3. Agree a schedule, payment milestones and the process for later scope changes.
  4. Define pass/fail tests for entries, exits, no-trade conditions, rejected orders and restarts.
  5. Clarify which corrections, revisions, setup assistance and maintenance are included.

Software acceptance is different from trading performance

A build should execute the agreed rules correctly. A profitable backtest alone does not prove that the specification was implemented correctly, and correct software cannot guarantee that a trading strategy will make money. Test the agreed scenarios, keep the build number and settings, and report any issue with logs and the expected behaviour.
